    OpenID picking up steam

    It looks like the OpenID identity standard is picking up some momentum.  Verisign announced today that it would provide a free OpenID URL to anyone who wants to register. 

    OpenID is a common identity system that allows you to use multiple sites with just one login.  Obviously it needs to reach a critical mass before many people will start using it, but if it does catch on it might just be the common identity infrastructure we've been waiting for.  Currently the list of sites that support it is pretty small, however it is growing.  Schtuff, Zooomr, and LiveJournal are the only sites I'm aware of that fully support OpenID right now.
